Popular walks around Belmullet

Location : Blacksod Pier, The Mullet peninsula, northwest Mayo.

Duration : approx. 5 - 6 hours (pier to pier).
Description :This beautiful little island lies 4 km west of The Mullet peninsula. Abandoned since the 1930s, this tranquil spot is home to seabirds and grey seals, ruined houses and the remains of its once thriving whaling station.

The 20 minute boat ride out is a pleasure in itself, as we look out for dolphins and more. Walking on the island is taking a step back in time, as we recount how the islanders once lived and what caused them to abandon their homes. A trip to Iniskea is a truly memorable day out.

Please allow around 90 minutes to get to Blacksod pier from Castlebar or Westport.

   Erris Head is a beautiful cliff-top walk perched at the very edge of Ireland, beyond Belmullet, Co. Mayo.

A spectacular cliff-top walk, with wonderful views out over the North Atlantic, offshore rocks and islands, as well as of World War II remnants. Great opportunity to see birds and grey seals.
